Project TARDIS

TARDIS at dusk, Cannery BuildingIf you live on the Saanich Peninsula you can’t have helped but notice the activity surrounding the filming of FOX TV show Gracepoint. Filming is taking place in Brentwood Bay and Sidney as well as locations all over the Saanich Peninsula. One of the lead characters of the new show is played by British actor David Tennant, perhaps most famous for his portrayal of the Doctor in sci-fi TV series Dr Who.

As we’re located on the waterfront in Sidney, just across from the site being used for the Gracepoint police station, and as many of the Holy Cow team are big Dr Who fans, we just had to show our love of the British TV star in some way. A casual office conversation evolved into a labour of love for our Ken as he rushed to complete the building of a full-sized replica TARDIS before film crews left the area.

Who knew it was possible to download blueprints for a time machine? Ken discovered all sorts of Whovian facts as he problem-solved his way through the project. Exactly what shade is TARDIS blue? Should he go with the 1960’s model or the 2000’s reboot? The ‘Police Call Box’ signs were printed locally on a back-lit acrylic, and if you open the compartment on the front …. well you need to visit to see the details within!

The Holy Cow Team

The Holy Cow TARDIS arrived with a flourish, and cloud of smoke, last week. Dominating the 3rd floor balcony it can be seen from the bottom of Beacon Avenue and looks especially impressive illuminated at night. Even more exciting for Dr Who fans is that we’re welcoming the public to come up and view the blue box close up, and take a #TARDISselfie as a memento. We’ve already seen lots of fans come through, but it won’t be here for long. After May 9th the blue box will be moving on, due to re-materialize at an undisclosed location.
